ABOUT
Our Village

In 2023, Nelson and Esther Mmbando embarked on a journey to live out their dreams of owning a farm. Inspired by the communal spirit of a Tanzanian upbringing — where entire villages collaborate to achieve great things

THE VILLAGE
Origin Story

Nelson Mmbando, the visionary behind our farm, is a passionate advocate for sustainable agriculture.Born and raised in Tanzania, Nelson's early experiences raising fish and chickens ignited his lifelong love for farming. This passion led him to pursue an Environmental Science degree from Sacramento State University, where he honed his expertise in sustainable practices and innovative farming techniques. Nelson is a pioneer in the field of aquaponics, having designed and built several cutting-edge systems that integrate fish farming and plant cultivation in a symbiotic environment. His dedication to sustainable farming is not just a career choice, but a deeply rooted commitment to creating a healthier planet for future generations

What Students Will Experience

Hands-On Agricultural Learning

Learning experiences are adapted by grade level, giving younger students opportunities to learn through observation and interaction while older students dig deeper into the science behind what they see.
The Farm Trail
A chaperone-led discovery challenge that gets students looking a little closer, thinking about what they’ve learned and putting it into practice as they explore.
Meet + Feed the Animals
Students get an up-close look at some of the animals who call The Village home, with opportunities for hands-on interaction and feeding along the way.

Farm Discovery
Learning continues as students explore the farm, meet the animals and discover smaller lessons along the way. Interactive learning stops encourage students to observe, ask questions and make connections to the working farm around them.
Cultivate Studio
A hands-on creative experience that brings art into the day, with farm and season inspired projects thoughtfully adapted for different grade levels.
A Ride Around the Farm
Students will get a chance to see more of the property with a hayride or cow cart ride.
